RoboNanny – Audio Surveillance Utility
No matter how good your hearing is, you can’t possibly hear everything – especially if you are say, in the other room and all the doors are closed. But you can keep an ear on things by doing what I always do: turn to software for help. There are specialized applications out there that will extend your hearing capabilities.
One such application is the Pingram Software-developed RoboNanny. This application is an audio home security and baby monitoring tool. Once this application is up and running it will monitor the sound levels in a room. When the noise levels go over a certain threshold, the application will start recording (it uses the computer’s microphone to do so).
The application will keep recording for as long as the noise exceeds the user-defined threshold. And it will continue to record for 15 more seconds after the noise no longer goes over the threshold. According to Pingram Software, the audio is saved as WMA files that do not take up much space on the hard drive. The software developer explained that an hour-long audio file will occupy some 4MB of space, which I think you will agree is not that much.
Recording sounds is not the only thing RoboNanny does. This application can also broadcast the sounds it picks up. This way you can listen to what the application picks up by simply connecting to your home IP with Windows Media Player.
RoboNanny can broadcast every sound it picks up via a WMA stream.
